Yogyakarta...an unforgettable stay... 2001...
Webowner's words...
This was my longest trip out of Singapore, and the class faced quite a number of problems during the preparation for this trip. The political turbulence of the region did not help our situation. Thus, even the decision to go ahead with the trip was not easy to make. However, it was really fortunate that all these had not deter us. Otherwise, I would have not gained such a memorable experience in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Too much can be said about this trip, and it is really hard to write down at this moment, about all that had happened. Everything had been so memorable, starting from the excitement of reaching Yogyakarta, the nervousness within most of us and the anticipation of the people we will meet. As we settled down, we began to like the place a lot, hence the more we treasure the remaining days we have at Yogyakarta. Indeed, I think I can almost remember every single little thing that took place, all of which were hard to forget. The time spent on campus, the dance and gamelan rehearsals, the cultural classes, the time spent doing our projects, the many many shopping trips along Jalan Malioboro, our visits to each others' homestay families, our exploration of our neighbourhoods, the trips to the beaches, Candi Pramanan, Borobudor, and Gunung Merapi, the traditional Javanese weddings we attended, the many weddings that we heard of throughout the stay, and the kind treatment that we had received from everybody there. Of cos, most importantly, we will never forget the friendship we forged with our teachers, tutors and friends at Sanata Dharma, and the close relationship we developed with our respective host families. Ever since we returned to Singapore, everyone of us had missed Yogyakarta. The one month of stay had brought my class much more closer than before and it is our wish that we'll go back again to visit our friends there, and I am sure we will make it happen.
